I wanted to test a technique I had in mind which added texture to this portrait, therefore imitating the wonderful painterly quality of Rembrandt's oil portraits. I wondered how this technique would work on a female subject so I tried it on my Vigee Lebrun study but I chickened out and only applied it to the drapery and background. This it one of two 2.5x3.5" watercolor I painted for my upcoming show.

I was, indeed, thinking about Rembrandt. The textures and brushes are "rough and hard" it would tend to make harsh expression on female, wouldn't you say?

When you draw a female next time try Pollock :lmao:
